BIRDS NOT BREEDING ON PEI

LIST OF BIRDS NOT BREEDING ON PEI – by English name

This information is drawn (with permission) from the Field Checklist of Birds (8th Edition) 2014, which was published by the Prince Edward Island Department of Agriculture and Forestry. (Please click on Field Checklist of Birds – 8th Edition – 2014 for a copy of the checklist in .pdf format.)

There is a total of 215 BIRD SPECIES NOT breeding on PEI.
To access the profile for each bird (description, photo(s) and sometimes video(s)) please check the PEI Bird Index by English Name, or the Taxonomic List of Birds of PEI.
Because a bird species does not breed on PEI, this does NOT necessarily mean that they are uncommon or rare. Some of those non-breeding species can actually be quite common depending on the seasons, as they are most likely wintering on PEI or are passing through during their migration.
Since sometimes a bird can be known under more than one English name, to prevent any confusion the Latin name of the bird is provided in brackets.
